What is the theme for the 2013 parade?

is the theme for the twentieth year of the Mystic Krewe of Barkus. Feel free to explore creative costuming while keeping in mind that we are calling attention to homeless animals in shelters across our area waiting to be adopted into a good home.
How does my dog become a member of the krewe and 'march' in the parade?
Every dog needs to complete a registration form and pay the membership/parade fee. Various levels of membership are available. Dogluxe membership is $30 until January 15th, and $40 until January 23rd. Day of the event registration is $50. Registration can be completed online or by faxing a completed Barkus 2013 Registration Form (credit card orders only) to (504) 522-0239 -- fax/online registration ends midnight CST, Wednesday, January 23, 2013. All walking krewe members will receive parade credentials prior to the parade. Make sure to include your complete address including zip code and please write legibly.
What do I receive for my registration fees?
The krewe member will be given credentials and directions regarding their color-coded lineup prior to the start of the parade, a certificate of membership, and food/drink tickets redeemable at food/beverage booths day-of parade. Non-krewe members are not allowed to walk in the parade, but are welcome to enjoy the festivities day of parade, 10:30am-'til.
When do the krewe members receive their registration packets?
Packets will be mailed until January 22nd at 5:00PM -- subsequent registration packets will be at WILL CALL table in the registration area day-of-the-parade.
What forms of payment does the Krewe of Barkus accept?
The Krewe of Barkus accepts checks made payable to Krewe of Barkus, as well as VISA, MasterCard, and American Express. If you choose to register online, please know that our site is secure.
What about the humans with the krewe members?
Each krewe member's registration includes one human escort. Additional human guests can walk with the krewe member by purchasing an escort pass for $8. Escort passes can be purchased online, at registration outlets and are available day-of-parade at the Registration Desk. Esteemed Levels of registration: Lucky Dog, Leader of the Pack and Top Dog include two, two and four human escorts, respectively.
Where do I go the day of the parade?
Plan to arrive early so that the krewe member (and the human escorts) have ample time to transition into the proper state of mind for this experience. The pre-parade Pawty starts at 10:30am. on the corners of North Rampart and Orleans avenue. Doggie and people drinks will be flowing along with all the appropriate New Orleans food items to consume at will. Where can I see the royal court the day of the parade?
The royal court is introduced at the stage prior to the start of the parade lineup. Royalty always leads the parade, so they are positioned in the front of all canine subjects.
Who receives the proceeds from Barkus parade and events?
Proceeds from Barkus 2005 benefited the Southern Animal Foundation, Looziana Basset Rescue, Friends of Jefferson Animal Shelter, Humane Society of Louisiana, Riverlands SPCA, Crescent City Rescue, Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue, Gulf South Golden Retriever Rescue, Proponents for Animal Welfare in St. Tammany (PAWS), and Tangipahoa Adopt A Rescue (TAAR). Proceeds from Barkus 2004 benefited Friends of Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter, Gulf South Golden Retriever Rescue, Humane Society of Louisiana, Jefferson SPCA, LA/SPCA, Louisiana Basset Rescue, Inc., Louisiana Search and Rescue Dog Team, Pearl River County SPCA, Proponents of Animal Welfare in St. Tammany (PAWS), Riverlands SPCA, Southern Animal Foundation, and Tangipahoa Adopt A Rescue (TAAR). How do I buy tickets to the Barkus Ball?
Tickets for this humans-only ball can be purchased online for $125 each. Reserved tables of 10 are available for $1500, and include reserved seating for 10, four passes to VIP reviewing stand at Good Friends (12noon-5pm), four passes to VIP tent 10:30-2pm), two signed & numbered posters and two official Krewe of Barkus t-shirts. All ball attendees enjoy open bar, food and entertainment. The ball is Friday, January 25, 2013, 8:00pm to midnight, at The Windsor Court Hotel.
